Traveling This Season? How to Protect Your Cards and ID on the Road
Holiday travel means airports, hotels, gas stations and crowded shopping centers, which are all places where it is easy to lose track of your cards. A few simple habits and the right wallet go a long way. Here is our travel checklist.

Before you leave
- Clean out your wallet. Bring only the cards you will actually use: your ID, one or two payment cards and your insurance card. Leave the rest at home.
- Tell your bank you are traveling if they ask for it, and turn on transaction alerts in their app.
- Take a photo of the front and back of your cards and ID and store it securely. It makes reporting a lost card much faster.
- Pack a backup card somewhere separate from your wallet, like a zipped bag pocket.
At the airport
Airports are crowded, and you will pull out your ID several times. A slim wallet in a front pocket is harder to pickpocket than a bulky one in a back pocket, and it slides into the TSA bin easily. Because our wallets are anodized aluminum, your contactless cards stay shielded from RFID readers the whole time they are inside.
At the hotel
Hotel key cards often use RFID too. Keep your room key in your wallet with your other cards so it stays shielded, and keep it away from your phone, where magnets can scramble older magnetic-stripe keys.
Paying on the road
- Tap or use your phone instead of swiping when you can. Contactless and phone payments use one-time codes.
- Inspect gas pumps and ATMs. Card skimmers are a bigger risk than RFID skimming. Wiggle the card slot and cover the keypad.
- Watch your card at restaurants and choose tap-at-the-table when it is offered.
If something goes missing
Lock your cards in your bank app right away. Then retrace your steps. If you carry an Apple AirTag Wallet, you can check your iPhone to see where your wallet is.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take my metal wallet through airport security? Yes. Like keys or coins, you may need to put it in the bin, and it slides right through.
Will it protect my passport? Passports aren’t designed to fit in a card wallet. Keep yours in a dedicated travel holder or a zipped pocket.
What should I carry on a trip? Your ID, one or two payment cards, insurance card and a little cash in the clip. That is it.
What if I lose my wallet while traveling? Lock your cards in your bank app first, then use your AirTag if you carry one in our Apple AirTag Wallet.
Gift idea for travelers
A slim RFID wallet makes a great gift for anyone with a trip coming up, like a new graduate, a retiree or a frequent flyer. Add their name to the cash clip and a design that reminds them of home.

Pick your design, pick your color
Every design can go on any of our ten wallet colors, and each color gives it a different look. Here is one design on four colors. Which one would you pick? Try your own combination in the wallet builder, where the preview updates as you choose.

The right wallet for the trip
A good travel wallet should be slim, tough and protective. Our metal wallets hold 2 to 15 cards, keep cash flat in the clip on the back, block RFID and stand up to being tossed in bags and bins. With a laser engraved design and a name on the cash clip, you won’t mix it up with anyone else’s at the security checkpoint.
Get yours before your trip in the Laser Engraved Metal Wallets builder. Most orders ship within 48 hours. Want to know more about how the protection works? Read why aluminum blocks RFID.
