How engraving changes an image
A laser engraving on an anodized aluminum wallet is a single color: the laser removes the colored surface and leaves bright white where the design is. There is no gray and no color in the engraving itself. So every image becomes a crisp, high-contrast picture.
That means some images translate beautifully, and some lose detail.
Images that engrave best
- Logos and emblems. Clean edges and solid shapes look sharp at wallet size.
- Line drawings and sketches, including kids’ artwork, which makes a heartwarming gift.
- Silhouettes. A dog, horse, truck or skyline in silhouette reads clearly.
Here are a few real business logos we have engraved. Each one has clean, solid shapes, which is why they come out crisp and bright white on the metal.
Images that are harder
- Photos. We aren’t taking photo uploads right now. Logos, drawings and line art engrave the cleanest.
- Busy backgrounds. A logo crowded by extra shapes or texture gets lost.
- Tiny text. Words smaller than about a quarter inch on the wallet may not stay readable.
- Very soft gradients, like skies and sunsets, which flatten out.
Quick tips before you upload
- Use the largest, sharpest version of the image you have. Screenshots of social media posts are usually too small.
- Crop tightly around the subject.
- For logos, a PNG with a transparent background is ideal, but JPG and WebP work too.
- Think about orientation. A tall image fits a portrait wallet. A wide image fits landscape.
Use the preview
After you upload, the product page shows your image on the wallet so you can check size and placement. If something doesn’t look right, try a different version of the image or a tighter crop. We also review every custom image before engraving and will reach out if we think it won’t come out well.

How sizing works
The engraving area covers most of the front of the wallet while staying clear of the screws and the thumb cutout. If your image is very wide or very tall, choose the wallet orientation that matches it so the design can be as large as possible. A tall image on a landscape wallet will end up small with empty space on the sides.

What file types can I upload? JPG, PNG and WebP images all work.
Will you change my image? We may adjust contrast and clean up stray pixels so it engraves clearly, but we won’t change your design. If we think it won’t come out well, we will contact you first.
